Christians live in a world full of temptation and sin. For some Christians, it is a struggle against masturbation and pornography addiction. The two often go hand-in-hand and due to the Internet which makes pornography easily accessible and available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year for free or for little cost. This produces a powerful temptation that some Christians cannot resist.
Your first step is to admit you have a problem. Even though you have committed your life to Christ, it is important that you do not let the temptations of this world alienate you from him.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 “
Turn and trust in God in your times of trouble. God understands our sinful nature.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. “
Tips for escaping addiction:
- Use the Bible and memorize helpful passages
- Pray daily. Never underestimate the power of Prayer
- Be honest with yourself and with God. Humble yourself before him and trust in His strength
- Avoid temptation. Destroy all pornographic materials in your home. Install Internet blocking devices and filters on to your computer. Avoid being on the computer late at night, or those times you are weakest and most likely to engage in these acts.
Finally, you may find you need to seek help. There are programs out there that deal with pornography and masturbation addictions; some are even geared towards Christians.
Remember Matthew 19:26
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
